Burning Piles: necessary and healthy

On our Mason Lake tree farm, we have burned almost 100 piles. The piles are generated from the waste of a timber harvest. The goal with burning piles is to reduce the waste to make room to plant more trees. The newly planted trees in the burn pile area always grow faster than the surrounding trees, from the increased nitrogen in the soil.
