What are Tree Tubes?

Tree tubes are generally plastic, and they protect the newly planted seedling from animal damage. Tree tubes are held in place by one or two bamboo stakes driven into the ground. Tree tubes come in many widths and lengths. We have found success using 4” by 36” tubes, but we will be switching to 6” by 36” tubes in the future. Keep in mind, the bigger tubes will be more expensive.

We purchase our tubes from PacForest, and they are located in Oregon.

The goal would be to protect your seedling until it can grow out of the top of the tube.

When planting Red Cedar seedlings, you should plan on tubing every seedling to protect them from animal damage. The tubes may also need to adjusted and maintained yearly until the trees get large enough to support themselves.
